Sweet & fattening (but nice)

Some sweet, dessert stuff that we've been eating recently... oh dear, all within the last 1.5 weeks!

Photobucket
For breakfast, whole meal scones (from Four/Five Loaves ?) and banana walnut bread from Sleek Espresso Bar (SEB)

Photobucket
Close up - it was ok, but I had thought it's like banana cake, but it was not.

Photobucket
Free cake of my choice from SEB, after I've bought xx no. of espresso coffees and got the required no. of "chops". I chose my favourite ang moh carrot cake.

Photobucket
The thing is, the 2 gals who used to work there were generous with their "chops", and I probably got more "chops" than the number of espresso coffees that I'd bought. Too bad they'd left for greener pastures.

Some home-baked desserts from Spud's mom:

Photobucket
Cheese Tart

I forgot why I'd drop by at their home, and they offered the tarts to me. I took just one tart, enough for both of us to share. It was very creamy, with a tinge of lemon zest and very nice, actually.

Ahh, maybe I went to return the food containers from the last round of free food, and inadvertently came back with more free food! What a good deal~! :P

Photobucket
Ahh....this one came last Sunday at supper time... apple crumble!

Usually, anything with fruit, I will eat it right away, even though it's so close to bedtime. The SO had already brushed his teeth very early (to avoid eating), so he had his the next morning.

Photobucket
It was fabulous...and so very pro; better than those bought outside.

Photobucket
I left this on the kitchen table and the SO thought I bought it from some store.

Photobucket
It's a butter cake from Spud's mom, given to me just tonight, so I've yet to try. I'm sure she'd used lots of butter... so sinful. >_<"

Anyway, I'd better remember that my cat-sitting duty starts tomorrow. :P

Uhmm...

More food from our friendly neighbours.

Photobucket
A few days' ago, they gave us a very big bowl of green bean. Actually, we do like green beans... of the normal type.

Photobucket
This one had a "sharp" taste of coconut milk, and (the first time I've come across) pieces of strong, pungent durian chunks...

Some of the food stuff they gave us earlier this year:

Photobucket
Cheesecake

Photobucket
I do eat cheesecake... ie. the normal kind...

Photobucket
That is, the normal kind without an extra layer of sweet jelly on top...

Photobucket
This was their own concocted dessert. I think it had a thick layer of sticky, rich & sweet chocolate over a layer of rich, cream cheese that sat over a layer of sweet Oreo biscuits.

Photobucket
Very sticky, rich, fattening and jelat. Probably concocted by their little girls.

Over at our home, the SO does not eat fresh durian. He only eats processed durian like durian kueh, which we eat once in a blue moon, like when someone buys a tube from Malaysia and give it to us. Fresh durian makes him throw up. I ate durians when I was a kid... and the last time I ate durian was like 2 or 3 years ago (probably ate up to 3 seeds).

I am not a dessert person. I am not into overly sweet food, although I eat Snickers and I love Magnum ice-cream, which I eat selectively since I put on weight easily.

Other than that, we are really not fussy people when it comes to food. We eat at hawker stalls, mostly. We can eat plain rice with vegetables everyday, or just a simple bowl of noodles.

It's a sin to waste food. The green bean is still sitting in the fridge... I don't know what to do... >_<"

Aarrrggghhh!!! *pulls out hair*

Food Presents

From the Spuddies this week - Buns, focaccia bread and chicken curry

Photobucket
Yet to try them...they're now sitting in the fridge.

Sometime in April, we also received some sweet cinnamon rolls from them...

Photobucket

...which we had for breakfast with some other items which I had already bought from the bakeries.

Photobucket

My favourite...

Photobucket

We also got some nice light, cream-filled biscuits from Tokyo, courtesy of KSN.

Photobucket
The packaging is so pretty, and even the cream filling comes in a sort of artistic pattern. I have a photo of that in my hp, which I will upload later.

Sushi !!

Hmm...I would sure loved to pick a few delectables from this sushi platter, especially the ones with salmon roe and the egg yolk & chopped spring onions.

It would be the perfect gift for sushi lovers. :)

From Sushidisk

Eh....how come there isn't one for the big hand-rolled sushi, huh?

Home-baked goodies

Er, no...I didn't do the baking. I haven't much experience in baking to be able to produce something decent and my mini oven is too small to produce good baking results.

However, we've been the lucky recipients of some yummy baked goods, courtesy of the "Spuddies", i.e. Spud's mom, who likes to bake and try out new recipes. *grin*

Cookies (early Feb)

Photobucket

Focaccia bread with sun-dried tomatoes, focaccia with cheese & banana cake (early Feb)

Photobucket

Wholemeal bun and very soft bread (late-Mar)

Photobucket

Closed-up of w/m bun - nice chewy texture but I found it too salty

Photobucket

And this had really good texture - walnut bread; even Spud's mom said it was perfect (a week after getting the soft bread).

Photobucket

Lucky us....don't you just love having neighbours like them?

Kueh Pietee again

I thought I should do the yummy kueh pietee better justice by shooting them with my non-HP camera.

Dinner tonight:

Plus a nice salad with feta cheese, olives and a dribble of Balsamic vinegar.

Of course, I also picked on bits of the SO's box of chye png. The vendor was very generous with the portions of veges...must patronise his stall more often.

Party Kueh Pietee

Cat aunty was right! >_<

We got the kueh piety or pietee on Monday night from Spud's mom. We had it for supper (in addition to the dinner that we already had).

Photobucket

I ate more than the SO because it's not really his favourite food, whereas I like it, whether in the form of pietee or popiah.

Photobucket
Spud's mom also gave us a rather big portion of the stir-fried leek with tau-gua dish (on the left). I found it tasted rather sweet; I think it's cooked that way for the children.

On Tue morning, I had the pietee for breakfast.

Photobucket

On Tuesday evening, I had more of it for dinner... a lot more...

Photobucket

...plus a salad (was in the mood for freshness, remember?)

Photobucket

This evening (Wed), I shall eat the rest of the pietee again, together with the rest of the salad from the bag of European Salad mix...plus maybe something else.

Over-indulgence? Yes, very happily indeed.

;P
