Tar Pao Dinner

On a whim, I went to tar pao these for dinner tonight.

All in environment-unfriendly take-out boxes

Tar-dah!!

Photobucket
From Max Cafe - one pork sausage and the other with herbs + 2 sides and came with a bowl of chicken corn soup.

The sauteed veggies of carrots, zucchini, brinjal (non-soggy at all!), cauliflower & whole garlic cloves (browned) were absolutely delicious. I feel like trying to 偷师 from the chef!

Photobucket
Something's hidden underneath the sio pek chye - from the food court above the bus interchange.

Photobucket
It's a big chunk of pan-grilled saba (one-half of a large mackeral) sitting on a bed of sauteed, sweet onions. The set came with rice and seaweed soup.

Photobucket
Don't think this is just any plain soup. It's simple but oh, so delicious! I don't know why, it just taste very good. I think I like the stall owner's style of cooking.

It was a good and satisfying dinner.

Food from Taka basement

We bought these snacks from Takashimaya's basement some time ago. Looking at them now is making me hungry.

Photobucket
California roll, yaki ika and "Emu Noodles" (instead of the usual emu rice...?)

Irresistible...

Indian Feast

One evening, we had take-away food from Banana Leaf Apollo.

Photobucket
Very heavy to carry all that home.

Photobucket
Yummy feast about to begin...

Photobucket
Free curry gravy, the 2 veggies (cabbage & brinjal) that came with the rice set ($3.50) including pappadom and extra order of some lemony spicy chicken ($8).

Photobucket
And an extra garlic naan.

Photobucket
Oh, and an extra order of dahl, of which they have many types, but I stick to the yellow lentils ($5).

Photobucket
There is so much rice in one person's portion, enough for 3 persons, yet the staff had asked me how many portions of rice I'd wanted. :P

Verdict: Very spicy and super yummy.
- the bryani rice was good even when eaten as leftover the next evening;
- spicy chicken was good and still have that lemon taste;
- dahl was buttery and creamy;
- garlic naan and cabbage were good.

The only thing I didn't like was the brinjal dish which had a tad too much spices which gave it a bitter taste.

All that for $19.80, and very the yummy!!

Food for a lazy Sunday

Home-prepared prawn salad

Photobucket

Prawns tossed with sweet Thai chilli sauce

The other hidden ingredients

Photobucket
The salad leaves were tossed with red wine vinaigrette dressing.
The celery should not be there, as it dilutes the taste...probably better with a creamy dressing

Smoked salmon thin-crust pizza from Canadian Pizza

Photobucket
The salmon was salty...

Hawaiian thin-crust pizza

Moussaka

With eggplant (brinjal), minced lamb and lots of cheese...this was nice.

Saybons, French Food Factory

I hadn't known this take-out joint is so "famous", until I saw the newspaper cuttings pasted all over their counter. I'd recently read from a food blog about their nice soup and crepes.

Photobucket

That's a large sized cup of seafood bisque (price $4.90).

Photobucket

The SO thought it was curry...and actually, it did have a spicy taste.

Photobucket
The seafood bisque was good, with a good "body" and without the strong "fishy" taste, which I'd experienced at some supposedly good restaurant.

The mushroom and cheese savoury crepe (@ $4.50), one of their popular items.

Photobucket
They also have dessert crepes filled with bananas, chocolate, strawberries and peanuts, but not all in the same crepe.

The crepe wasn't as hot or soft, since I'd taken it home to eat, but it was very nice all the same. The SO likes it too.

Photobucket
I drank almost all the soup and ate about 40% of the crepe, but it was quite filling, and I didn't feel like I needed to eat more for dinner, except perhaps a fruit and drink. I think a soup plus focaccia bread (which they also sell) would make a nice lunch.
