Sweet & fattening (but nice)

Some sweet, dessert stuff that we've been eating recently... oh dear, all within the last 1.5 weeks!


For breakfast, whole meal scones (from Four/Five Loaves ?) and banana walnut bread from Sleek Espresso Bar (SEB)


Close up - it was ok, but I had thought it's like banana cake, but it was not.


Free cake of my choice from SEB, after I've bought xx no. of espresso coffees and got the required no. of "chops". I chose my favourite ang moh carrot cake.


The thing is, the 2 gals who used to work there were generous with their "chops", and I probably got more "chops" than the number of espresso coffees that I'd bought. Too bad they'd left for greener pastures.

Cheese Tart

I forgot why I'd drop by at their home, and they offered the tarts to me. I took just one tart, enough for both of us to share. It was very creamy, with a tinge of lemon zest and very nice, actually.

Ahh, maybe I went to return the food containers from the last round of free food, and inadvertently came back with more free food! What a good deal~! :P


Ahh....this one came last Sunday at supper time... apple crumble!

Usually, anything with fruit, I will eat it right away, even though it's so close to bedtime. The SO had already brushed his teeth very early (to avoid eating), so he had his the next morning.


It was fabulous...and so very pro; better than those bought outside.


I left this on the kitchen table and the SO thought I bought it from some store.


It's a butter cake from Spud's mom, given to me just tonight, so I've yet to try. I'm sure she'd used lots of butter... so sinful. >_<"

Anyway, I'd better remember that my cat-sitting duty starts tomorrow. :P

Fave green tea swiss roll

Not being a sweet dessert person, I am not really into cakes, but I really like the green tea cakes from Breadtalk. They have the whole green tea cake (the expensive version) and the green tea swiss roll (cheapo version) which appears only every now and then.

With their current anniversary promotion, their green tea swiss roll has come back onto the shelves at a promo price of $1.10 till end of July.


If you're lucky, you may even get a big red bean or two inside the cream.

To date, I've eaten several of these rolls already in a span of 1.5 weeks! Yummy, yummy!!

Coffee Break

Coffee from JCO Donut & Coffee


I must have bought either an Americano or a latte and to my pleasant surprise, the staff gave me a small donut foc, to go with my coffee.



This is not raw sugar, but really brown sugar powder! It didn't interfere with the taste of coffee though, and I do like the understated but stylish packaging.



Local egg & kaya-butter toast set at a new small joint at SMU.


I happened to walk aimlessly to that area, not sure of what to have and when I saw they have soft-boiled egg... well, that settles it! :)

It was too light, so I went to pack a veggie subway for an afternoon snack. I'm still not sure why I got a discount for the sandwich. Did they think I was a SMU staff (I wasn't wearing any tag) or .... a student?!? :-O

Nice... and the prices are slightly cheaper than most coffee joints. Hope they stay around.

Coffee & cake

Here's the cafe latte from Sleek Espresso Bar (at basement of Sim Lim Square) which I like.



It's quite a big cup filled with full-bodied espresso + foamy milk, and I think there's more than one shot of espresso at that - good value for money! Their service is friendly too.



They also sell this big slice of ang moh carrot cake at $4.20 nia. I tar-pao the carrot cake to take home to share with the SO.



I dunno why, but I felt so hungry that Friday afternoon, that I ended up eating the whole big chunk of cake for tea...all by myself :P

Furthermore, the SO asked me to go eat steamboat dinner that night...so end up overate again! >_<

The cafe latte from The Soup Spoon, at $3.60 or so (can't remember) , in a very small cup and it had only one single shot of espresso, and it wasn't shiok.



At the office, with one of the blue pens that I brought from home, coz the pens provided by the office all can't be used after some time - the ink wouldn't come out!

Meanwhile, I am still wondering WHEN I will try to bake a carrot cake. I wanted to do that one weekend, then the cat sisters came and it never take off after that.

ps: Speaking of cakes, I could never quite understand the English phrase "to have one's cake and eat it as well". I mean, what's the use of having a cake if one can't eat it, right?

Japanese cake - "Marukyo" Funwari Yaki

Like my favourite Japanese anime character Doraemon, the robot cat whose favourite snack is dorayaki, I too, like to eat dorayaki, but only those from the Japanese supermaket, and not those CMI ones from local bakeries.



Some months' back, I discovered a lighter version of the dorayaki that taste even better than dorayaki. It's called "Marukyo" Funwari Yaki and is yellow in colour (like the local kway nerng korh - the fluffy egg cake).

Like the dorayaki, it comes with 2 pieces of Japanese cake wrapped around a layer of red bean paste...very yummy! What I like about the red bean paste is that it's made of those Japanese big, fat red beans, and since it's not 100% mashed up, there are bits of the roundish red bean skin in the paste, giving it a nice texture (很有口感）!

It's a pleasant, lovely snack to eat even just before meals, as it's light enough so it won't spoil my dinner.

Japanese treats

Gleefully, I bought dinner from Isetan Orchard's basement food court last Monday. I was gleeful because I didn't have to pay much for the dinner, because I had been given some shopping vouchers. All I had to pay was a few dollars since my total purchases did not round up to $10, and the supermarket wasn't going to give me change for using the vouchers.

Incidentally, I've always like Doraemon and Dorayaki (with red bean paste) since I was a kid. :)
