New Gelato

Never having been a fan of Magnolia ice-cream, I must say I am very surprised and happy that they can come up with this.

Photobucket
So far, it's one of the yummiest packaged gelato / ice-cream / desserts I'd eaten!

Photobucket
The texture is superbly smooth and best of all, it's not overly sweet. Very yummilicious!

Photobucket
Must try the dark chocolate flavour next. :P

Photobucket
Even the packaging looks very nice and pleasant. The effort they've put into the product makes me happy. :)

Macarons

I wondered what all the fuss was about this relatively new dessert which I keep hearing gushing comments about, especially from bloggers who like to bake. I've not tasted it, though it sounds to me like yet another "high-class" fad thingy. What I do know, is that it's very difficult to bake them well, and they're made of egg white, icing sugar and perhaps, cream (for the filling).

Photobucket
Other than that cafe place at the basement of Raffles City, I found them at Bakerzin when I happened to go to Wisma Atria (which I haven't been to for a long time) to get my hp serviced.

Photobucket
I bought them in rose, lemon and some sort of vanilla-strawberry flavour. Each tiny biscuit costs $1.60, including GST, so all 3 miserable biscuits cost $4.80. Piangz...so expensive!

Photobucket

The surface looks hard, but once I take a small bite, the whole thing crackles like fragile wafer. The inside texture is very airy, made from whipped egg white and held together by the icing sugar.

Photobucket
The lemon one tastes artificial; there wasn't any taste of strawberry in the vanilla-strawberry one, and the rose-flavoured one tastes nice (because I happen to like rose syrup). One thing's for sure: all of them taste cloyingly SWEET! Send out the DIABETES ALERT!!

Luckily, I'm not into sweet things, so I don't think I will purposely buy them again. Haha!

Recent food sightings

Rectangular muffins from Cedele bakery - Blueberry-cranberry and Cuppucino

Photobucket

Fried Tilapia from Carrefour - fried and saltless

Photobucket

The "Ang Golly" that EJ mentioned; the English name is sea bream (I didn't know that!)

Photobucket

Red Delicious #4015...today's the day to buy 4D. ;)

Photobucket

There's no more MaLing at the provision shop *sob*, only the ang moh Tulips brand and this Yifon, which has ham and yet is cheaper than the ham-less ML (that's how much prestige ML commands in the market!)

Snacking at the office

My recent lot of office snacks which I have been munching on for the past week.

Dried Sakura Peach from CS, but made in PRC...

Photobucket

A titbit from Shanghai given by a colleague

Photobucket

Very powdery and rather sweet...

Photobucket

I remember the name Royal Dalton was associated with high-end, expensive fine bone China in the past, and thought these butter cookies would be just as fine.

Photobucket

Alas! There was hardly any real cheese flavour, and the cookies were hardly fine in taste or texture.

Note to self : Don't ever buy this brand again.

Photobucket

I also had these rather sinful desserts in addition to lunch this week. :PP

Chendol

Photobucket

I hardly eat chendol, but if I'm around the area, I will sure eat this from Tekka Mall's foodcourt. At $1.50 only, they give lots of kidney beans, at least 3 attap seeds (considered very generous), and the non-clotting type of coconut milk (although packaged).

I think this chendol is considered good among those sold at aircon foodcourts because I have a colleague who loves to eat chendol, so I've gathered enough "research data" from all those times she'd ordered chendol during lunch at different foodcourts. There's even one very expensive foodcourt which serves chendol without a single attap seed...tsk, tsk!

Photobucket

I tar pao-ed these Ah Balling (glutinous rice balls) in peanut soup today...yum yum!

Photobucket

My favourite are those filled with black sesame seed paste.

Photobucket

Apart from these snacks, I must have snacked on other stuff, so now I know where the weight gain had come from. :-( Okie...no more sinful desserts next week.

The pineapple tarts and CNY cookies are out in full force at the shops, and had I not restrained myself earlier, I would have succumbed to my sudden craving to eat the pineapple tarts. Jialat... cannot start on CNY snacks so early!

Easy Tiramisu

While on the subject of tiramisu (Spud & Tiramisu), I've been told (again) that it's an easy dessert to make, and from this food video, I guess it must be!

By the way, Videojug is one of my favourite sites for food video and other funny stuff like "how to eat sushi in a Japanese restaurant"...that one is just so...so...ticklish. :P
