I had a super salad tonight - super luxurious, super delicious and in extra large portion!
It has the usual baby spinach, butterhead lettuce, celery, capsicum, cherry tomatoes, red wine vinaigrette dressing, with the addition of ...
... smoked mussels in BBQ sauce!
If that wasn't enough, I added extra 麻辣 white tuna (from TC Boy brand). :P
The mussels tasted sweet and creamy with a slight chewy texture at the end. The tuna was more sweet than hot...actually it wasn't hot at all to me. I've packed it in the plastic container (with a cover) so that I could take it to eat with Spud while cat-sitting at the same time.

Food Presents
From the Spuddies this week - Buns, focaccia bread and chicken curry
Yet to try them...they're now sitting in the fridge.
Sometime in April, we also received some sweet cinnamon rolls from them...
...which we had for breakfast with some other items which I had already bought from the bakeries.
My favourite...
We also got some nice light, cream-filled biscuits from Tokyo, courtesy of KSN.
The packaging is so pretty, and even the cream filling comes in a sort of artistic pattern. I have a photo of that in my hp, which I will upload later.

Gift of Life
To raise funds for the China Sichuan's quake victims, BreadTalk (local bakery chain) came up with these sad-looking panda buns for sale. Each costs $2 and it seems all proceeds will be donated to the cause.
The bread tasted buttery and fragrant, and there is sweet red bean paste filling inside.
Nice to eat. Eat and help a cause at the same time... why not?

Another wonderful Jap product
Warning: This product is addictive!
By the standards of instant noodles, the Japanese ones always win!
Five packs costs $9, but it's ok because we're worth it! (to quote a lousy cliche :PP )
I think this one is char siew flavour or something.
Update on 25 May:
Served with baby spinach leaves, sweet onion and fish luncheon meat (black pepper flavour).

New Gelato
Never having been a fan of Magnolia ice-cream, I must say I am very surprised and happy that they can come up with this.
So far, it's one of the yummiest packaged gelato / ice-cream / desserts I'd eaten!
The texture is superbly smooth and best of all, it's not overly sweet. Very yummilicious!
Must try the dark chocolate flavour next. :P
Even the packaging looks very nice and pleasant. The effort they've put into the product makes me happy. :)

Seafood dinner
... with KSN after she came back from her business trip to the US. We went to Fish & Co at AMK Hub.
Crawfish pizza on a flaky pastry pizza base
Seafood platter for one
Sitting underneath all that seafood was yellow pilaf/rice.
It was my first visit to this restaurant. I love to eat squid, and while the food is alright (can be a bit fresher), I didn't think it was fantastic.

Tortilla & Salad - where to find?
KSN was asking me about where to find the tortilla that I've been eating.
I first got this at Cold Storage at BJ, but I can no longer find them...maybe have to try the atas supermaket. These wholemeal tortillas are really nice to eat and the texture didn't become dry after having kept them in the fridge.
I like their extra large size which means I can eat just one piece of tortilla. It's the only one that comes in a proper resealable bag.
Next, I had to settle for this white flour tortilla which is common in CS and some outlets of the "aunty lucy" mart. They were salty, dry and breaks/tears easily (ref to photos of broken salmon wraps), and has a funny type of so-called "resealable bag"... by giving you a sticker which CAN'T be resealed again and again...
I will try not to buy them again if I can help it. Heck, I may even settle for the less palatable chappati (also in packet form) instead.
Then I found these house-brand wholemeal ones at this hypermart...yet to try them.
These wraps and pitas (below) are quite common at certain CS and AL outlets. I saw them at Heartland Mall's CS last Friday night. I think I've tried the pita before and it was alright.
Saw this at HM last Friday night too...
I buy this 250g pack of salad leaves (with butterhead, curly red Lollo Roso lettuce, radichio & endive) regularly, coz they are already in bite size, so I presume no need to wash (I lazy). I will also buy the usual whole head of butterhead lettuce, and also not wash them... just eat!
For something more nutritious (darker coloureds are usually better) and exciting, one can try the baby spinach leaves and wild rocket (this wild one is very bitter, be warned!) from CS or Carrefour.
Some CS outlets also have the beautiful oak leaf lettuce and curly lettuce from Cameron Highlands, but I've yet to try them. I almost did try, but those 3 packs left on the shelf didn't look fresh today.
Salad of baby spinach leaves, (bitter) wild rocket, romaine & butterhead lettuce, celery, alfafa sprouts and white fish tuna (canned with chilli padi).
Here's to good health!

Hmm...I would sure loved to pick a few delectables from this sushi platter, especially the ones with salmon roe and the egg yolk & chopped spring onions.
It would be the perfect gift for sushi lovers. :)

Oatmeal for any time
The SO and I can eat oatmeal for breakfast, lunch or supper. I've been eating it with all sorts of "rubbish" that I can find in the fridge, so as to cut down preparation (I'm lazy).
1. Sweet oatmeal with milk, honey and dried fruits and/or nuts
2. Savoury oatmeal with fermented bean curd
3. Savoury oatmeal with scallop chutney (I didn't know got such a thing :P)
Taste a bit "fishy"...
4. Savoury oatmeal with kiam chye (preserved mustard leaves)
5. Savoury oatmeal with Japanese miso and a soft boiled egg, which I had for breakfast this morning (no photo).... Yumzz~! It was really yummy with the smooth egg.
This is my current favourite rolled oates, which gives a much better texture and doesn't cost much more than the non-rolled oates variety, especially since a popular brand of the latter has seen a 25% increase in price recently. It's also instant...no need for cooking. Yaay!
Of course, being quite a light meal, snacking afterwards is necessary. I always believe in snacking and having teas in between meals, especially during the weekends. :)

Salmon Tortilla & Green Salad
My Dinner tonight - a very easy to make tortilla wrap, which requires no cooking.
Take leftover canned salmon, add a bit of lemon juice & black pepper and mix well.
I didn't add salt as the salmon was already salty since it came in a can of brine (made of spring water). Can add a little bit of chopped fresh dill, if available.
Place a piece of lettuce on tortilla, leaving about half an inch of border around.
I'm using mini-Romaine lettuce (from M'sia), which can taste a wee bit bitter when eaten raw.
Spread a thin layer of salmon on the lettuce leaf, but I spread too much.
Roll up the tortilla firmly.
Slice into half and eat!
There is a generous amount of salmon, so it ended up tasting a wee bit salty. Can counteract this by wrapping another piece of lettuce over the tortilla roll and eat.
There was also a green salad, before adding dressing.
I luv these alfafa sprouts, although they tend to absorb quite a lot of the dressing. :P
They are living sprouts and can be kept in the fridge for a few days.
Edited - Ps: I forgot to add 1 tsp of mayo into the salmon mix.

Salad days
Salad-eating days are here, what with the meltingly-hot weather nowadays.
The other reason for eating salads is to get rid of tummy bloatedness and this humongous water retention, which had stubbornly stuck to me for almost 2 weeks!
Er... I assumed and hoped that it's water retention and not weight gain...!?! :-( The SO doesn't mind eating more healthily and lose a few pounds, although nobody will say he's fat lah!
There was a saba (mackeral) salad, which we had last week, with red wine vinaigrette dressing.
The saba was purchased from Carrefour, already cooked, which I think is a great concept, coz they can then sell off whatever unsold raw saba that's leftover at the end of the day.
It was a big piece of fish, almost as long as my small oven.
I think the saba was pre-marinated coz it tasted savoury and sweet, with no need to add any sauce.
For lunch today, we had "chapalang" salad, ie the "anything-goes" salad.
There was broccoli and green beans (blanched in boiling water), celery, tomatoes, capsicum and onions...
...lightly dressed with Japanese sesame dressing.
The protein came from a can of "Whole squids in their own ink" - yep, that's what the packaging says in English.
Plus some wonderfully-fragrant Atlantic salmon, also from a can.
Whole squid in its own ink + salmon salad, topped with a dollop of black squid ink. I found the squid ink to be quite delicious, if you don't mind the whole black thing.
Of course, since we're not small eaters, eating a salad for lunch means we need to have snacks for afternoon tea, which we usually do, anyway. ;-)

Nice, nice apples
These organic fuji apples from the US are just lovely, lovely to eat...wonderfully sweet and flavourful!
At about $5.95 for a large bag of 9 to 11 apples (depending on size of apples), they're a good deal. They're so delicious that they encourage me to eat an apple or two everyday.
These are unusual colour for raspberries.
At $9.20 a small box, I didn't buy them. :P
