Some of them are quite yummy too!
Vegetarian sheng mian in claypot...or erm...aluminium pot - very nice, but 生面 is not something in my usual diet
Vegetarian Tom Yam beehoon - not hot enough!
Salad with a difference - carrots, red cabbage, beetroot, marng guang, dou miao and alfafa sprouts. Is marng guang called turnip in English? What about in Chinese?
The sweet, lemony mayo salad dressing was superb...so yummy that I drank the whole thing...not good :P
Vegetarian Lor Mee - very nice, as long as the gravy tastes good
Organic nasi bryani - ok lah...no kick one
Vegetarian kueh chap from another stall - didn't like the plate of liao, nor the chilli sauce
Ahh....the intriguing vegetarian pig's stomach soup beehoon (猪肚汤米粉).
The herbal soup is peppery and nice, and the slices of pig's stomach really look so real and had a crunchy taste. Pieces of mock mutton and pork were also added.
Organic tau pok...for my afternoon snack
Closed up of tau pok ingredients, smothered with organic mayo... no wonder it tastes good.
Vegetarian curry mutton noodles.... Eeeee.... it's more starchy than gravy, and it's so steaming hot that it's hard to eat.
Vegetarian prawn noodles, but without prawn, not even the mock prawn. It had pieces of mock mutton (?), pork and sotong (squid) and lots of yummy kang kong and bean sprouts - nice soup wins the day.
The pork ribs rice set - the rice was very fragrant... it's like eating claypot rice flavoured with a hint of 5-spice powder. Yummz! The accompaniments were average.
Vegetarian chye png (vegetable rice) - with mustard leaves (大菜 - one of my favourite), long beans and curry beef! I don't consume beef at all, but vegetarian beef is ok. Heheh! The curry was very fragrant.
Mock fried ikan bilis made from mushrooms
To be consumed in moderation due to the high sodium content
Missing photo: Vegetarian black vinegar mee suah。

Home cooking
I've started cooking at home recently, after months of keeping a non-oily stove.
Home dinner one night, with store-bought roast pork, which I've grilled in the oven (to a crispy skin).
Beijing cabbage with canned vegetarian 罗汉斋
Bean sprouts with ready-soaked black fungus from the market
Tofu with minced pork
Dinner of wanton soup and sweet peas stir-fried with pacific clams
These ready to eat wanton soup from CP brand is fabulous...one of the best frozen food around.
Pasta dinner tonight:
With grilled spicy pork sausage, fresh brown and white mushrooms, assorted veggies and leftover pacific clams.
While being grilled in the mini oven, the sausages somehow caused a little fire to be ignited in the oven! :-O
The oil dripping must have sparked off the small fire on the aluminium foil! >_<"
Anyway, it was an extra tasty pasta dinner. ;)
And I love my pasta keeper. It has holes that conveniently dispense exactly 100g or 200g of pasta.

Tar Pao Dinner
On a whim, I went to tar pao these for dinner tonight.
All in environment-unfriendly take-out boxes
Tar-dah!!
From Max Cafe - one pork sausage and the other with herbs + 2 sides and came with a bowl of chicken corn soup.
The sauteed veggies of carrots, zucchini, brinjal (non-soggy at all!), cauliflower & whole garlic cloves (browned) were absolutely delicious. I feel like trying to 偷师 from the chef!
Something's hidden underneath the sio pek chye - from the food court above the bus interchange.
It's a big chunk of pan-grilled saba (one-half of a large mackeral) sitting on a bed of sauteed, sweet onions. The set came with rice and seaweed soup.
Don't think this is just any plain soup. It's simple but oh, so delicious! I don't know why, it just taste very good. I think I like the stall owner's style of cooking.
It was a good and satisfying dinner.

More Berries
The first time I ate fresh blackberries.
Again, Fairprice Finest were selling them at reasonable nice prices.
I'd thought they're like black-coloured raspberries, but in fact, they're totally different.
Raspberries have hollow centres, whereas blackberries are like many tiny, little berries clinging onto a central "vine". I think blackberries are nicer.

Cooking resumes
The chance to cook again came sooner than I'd expected... am on mc today, and after the visit to the doc, I decided to buy some foodstuff to cook for dinner tonight. Actually, it's only the Ti Huang Miao that I need to cook, the rest are some cooked roasted meat for the SO, unless I do a fried rice with some of the roasted meat.
Ahh...eggs! Tempting tempting...
I hope the rice will still be ok and fit for eating. I also realised I should have bought some garlic, though I did buy young fresh ginger. I'm so rusty now that I'd taken such basic ingredients for granted and assumed I always have them at home. :P

I miss home-cooked food
I haven't been cooking for quite a long while, and when I look at photos of my past cooked dishes, I really missed eating them.
The dishes don't have to be very elaborate or special, and I miss the simple taste of home-cooked fresh vegetables without too much sauces and added condiment.
I mentioned this to the SO and he said he missed my home-cooked food too.
I shall try not to be lazy and cook something this week. One thing's for sure though - I believe it's harder to keep our weight down when we eat more home-cooked food... coz we tend to eat a lot more of it! :P

Huge straw mushroom
We had dinner with a friend at Sizzler one Friday night, and I was very happy they had tom yam soup! I must have had 3 bowls of it. *Slurp!*
This had to be the biggest straw mushroom I'd ever seen!
Near the end of my meal, I tried to find more of it in the soup pot, but there was no more. In fact, there was hardly any mushroom left by then.

Sweet & fattening (but nice)
Some sweet, dessert stuff that we've been eating recently... oh dear, all within the last 1.5 weeks!
For breakfast, whole meal scones (from Four/Five Loaves ?) and banana walnut bread from Sleek Espresso Bar (SEB)
Close up - it was ok, but I had thought it's like banana cake, but it was not.
Free cake of my choice from SEB, after I've bought xx no. of espresso coffees and got the required no. of "chops". I chose my favourite ang moh carrot cake.
The thing is, the 2 gals who used to work there were generous with their "chops", and I probably got more "chops" than the number of espresso coffees that I'd bought. Too bad they'd left for greener pastures.
Some home-baked desserts from Spud's mom:
Cheese Tart
I forgot why I'd drop by at their home, and they offered the tarts to me. I took just one tart, enough for both of us to share. It was very creamy, with a tinge of lemon zest and very nice, actually.
Ahh, maybe I went to return the food containers from the last round of free food, and inadvertently came back with more free food! What a good deal~! :P
Ahh....this one came last Sunday at supper time... apple crumble!
Usually, anything with fruit, I will eat it right away, even though it's so close to bedtime. The SO had already brushed his teeth very early (to avoid eating), so he had his the next morning.
It was fabulous...and so very pro; better than those bought outside.
I left this on the kitchen table and the SO thought I bought it from some store.
It's a butter cake from Spud's mom, given to me just tonight, so I've yet to try. I'm sure she'd used lots of butter... so sinful. >_<"
Anyway, I'd better remember that my cat-sitting duty starts tomorrow. :P
