Hakka Thunder Rice

It's been around for 2 or 3 years, but I've only tried this rice a couple of weeks' ago - Hakka Thunder Tea Rice(?) or 客家擂茶。

This version I tried happened to be the organic version from an organic eatery.

It's got lots of ingredients, like (clockwise from top) bean curd, green vegetable, black-eyed beans, long beans, cabbage, dried chai poh (preserved radish, for vegetarian version) and peanuts served over brown rice (for organic version).

Served with a herby, grassy-tasting, minty soup which one is supposed to pour over the rice, but I didn't do that, coz all that water will definitely stuff me up too soon.

It's very filling, so it's wise to ask for less rice and to forgo the peanuts since I don't like them. However, I think I still prefer the Korean Bibimbab over this anyday, even if it's the vegetarian version... I can eat that rice+vege dish everyday!

Aarrgghhhh!!

It's the last weekend before Chinese New Year and there's still much spring cleaning and packing to do!! *Drats!*

My new mantra for now is:

Must reduce the clutter,
Must Reduce the clutter,
MUST REDUCE THE CLUTTER!!

:PPP

I was envying a friend whose company has closed for the CNY festive season since after work last Thursday...until she told me they will get 3 days deducted from their annual leave. It's a compulsory thing, no questions asked, and non-negotiable!

Waa...in that case, it's not enviable at all.

Okie...back to housework. :((

ps: after that last sentence, Coco apparently agreed that I should return to doing my housework, as she promptly stepped over my keyboard and shut down my pc for me. *Hmph!*

The festive air of Chinese New Year (2)

Celebrating festive occasions is never complete without food, and there probably isn't more eating and drinking on any festive occasion than CNY!

These are just a teeny, weeny sampling.

Photobucket
Pineapple tarts from the cake shop; got lots of pineapple filling and very little pastry...I like.

Even before CNY starts, we start eating and sampling already. Who can resist those yummy CNY goodies that appears so abundantly during this time? Hehehe!

Photobucket
LCG bak kwa - this is NOT my favourite brand, but my father likes to go and queue up for hours just to buy kilos of burnt bak kwa *roll eyes*

I threw all these burnt bits and pieces away....lousy, lousy, lousy LCG bak kwa!!

It took a lot of resistance so that I could take home less of it...coz still on diet. Actually, my fave bak kwa is the brand with the "Ah Pek" face - Kim Hock Guan.

Photobucket
Pineapple tarts from Spud's mom...hers got more pastry than pineapple filling has a milk powder taste in the pastry.

More yummy goodies from Spud's mom - Kueh Lapis. :)

I have yet to really buy the goodies, and I think it's better not to buy too much, or else we'll end up having to eat them ourselves later or throwing them away.
